The Folly Beach Council decided once again to restrict access to the island beginning at 5 pm on Saturday. During an emergency session held on Saturday at 3 pm, the members decided to roll-back the restrictions (that were just relaxed a day earlier. On the heels of a strengthened emergency order issued by SC Governor Henry McMaster in the afternoon, the council felt emboldened to once more issue new regulations, as detailed in this latest Covid 19 press release.
Effective by 5:00 p.m. Saturday March 28, the checkpoint for restricted access to the island will resume 24 hours per day.
Further, no new check-ins to short-term rentals will be permitted after 9:00 a.m. Sunday, March 29.
Further, after witnessing thousands flock to our beaches on Saturday, the Police Chief stated that enforcing social distancing on the beaches was like "moving water around in a bowl." As the pictures show, the beach was crowded, despite pleas from numerous protesters to "Stay Safe, Stay Home."
